Site navigation, and using the on-line ordering systems
Site navigation
The site is arranged in seven main sections (see navigation bars at top and bottom of this and most other pages). Each link in the main navigation bars takes you to the 'front page' of the requested section, from where nested pages within that section are available. It may be that to get to another main section from one of these nested pages you will first have to go back to the current section front page. The seven main sections are:>Catalogue - our printed catalogue. How to get your free copy, plus details of price revisions, changes in product availability since publication etc>Products - our on-line catalogue. An increasing selection from our range complete with 'browse and buy' on-line purchase options. Includes new products not listed in our printed catalogue. This 'Products' section is split into 20 sub-sections or product categories, each of which is linked to the others. The complete detailed list of product categories is to be found on the 'Products' main page (sometimes called the Products Main Index), from which also can be accessed ordering and delivery information, the list of new products and price change details>Bargains - If what you're looking for is listed here, you could save money! Bargains and special offers, both with 'browse and buy' purchase option, and an occasional special clearance sale.>Downloads - Information, projects, product data sheets and more in downloadable format.>Assistance - help (including this page), hints, directory of video clubs, a few useful links>Contacts - how to find and contact Keene Electronics Ltd.>Home - back to the front page
On-line ordering
There are two ways of ordering products on-line from Keene
Electronics web site, the 'automatic' and the 'manual'. We anticipate that most users
will want and be able to take advantage of the 'automatic' system, but note:
1) it is a Javascript driven system so it can't be used unless you have a Javascript
compatible browser
2) it can only be used to order products listed on the site. If for example you want
to order on-line an item that is detailed in our printed catalogue but not listed
in the on-line products section, you will have to use the 'manual' system
The Automatic system
When this web site is accessed, the client is checked for browser compatibility (Netscape
and Explorer only). If compatible, the ordering system is automatically loaded. Once
loaded, three main functions are available - add a product to the order list, review/amend
the order list, and proces/send the order.
1) Add a product. This is effected by clicking the 'add to order' symbol or the 'Add to Order' text link
associated with the product required. Every product available for sale on-line (eg
those in Products and Bargains sections) will have one or the other. For some products,
for example those with quantity discount or with variable specification, information
regarding quantity, size etc will need inputting before the add function will work.
Adding a product to your order list will automatically take you to the 'Review Order'
page.
2) Review Order. This single page shows the items, prices and totals (excluding delivery)
that constitute the current order list. Item quantities can be amended, and products
removed from the list. This same page also provides links to the Terms and Conditions
and Process/Send order pages, the products/bargains pages, and the Home page. The
Review Order page is accessed either by adding a product to your order list (see
1. Sometimes this is the most convenient method - it doesn't matter if you don't
really want to add the product, because it can be removed again on the review page),
or by clicking the Basket Review link at the top right of the page, or from the process/send order pages (backward link).
A little further explanation of the some of the components of the Review Order page
is perhaps useful:
'Continue Shopping' links. Will take you back to (more or less) the last product
or bargain page accessed
'Terms' links. Take you to our Terms and Conditions page. You will not be able to
access the process/send order pages until you have entered an agree/disagree response
to the conditions on this page.
Item description (order list). This appears as a link, which if clicked will take
you to (more or less) the page on which that item appears.
'Process Order' links. Take you to the actual purchase/payment details and send order
screens. You can get back to the Review page from these screens without committing
to a purchase.
3) Process/send order. Consists of two pages, accessible only from the 'Review
Order' page via the 'Process order' links. The first page is for collection of customer
and delivery details, the second for display of total order, including carriage costs,
selection of payment method (from a range of options), and 'send order' button. If
the chosen payment method is on-line payment by credit card, a third secure page
will collect and transmit card details separately to the order.
The Manual system
This is a simple order form in which all of the order details have to be entered
manually. The form is accessible from the 'Ordering and delivery' page, links to
which can be found on the following pages: Products Main Index, Products - New Products,
Products - Price changes, Bargains (with pics), Bargains (text).
